B.Sc (Honours) Agriculture & Rural Development
India is principally an agricultural country. Agriculture, with its allied sectors, is unquestionably the largest livelihood provider in India. Most of the industries also depend upon the sector for their raw materials. Steady investments in technology development, irrigation infrastructure, emphasis on modern agricultural practices and provision of agricultural credit and subsidies are the major factors contributed to agriculture growth.
Indian agriculture has undergone rapid transformation in the past two decades. The policy of globalisation and liberalisation has opened up new avenues for agricultural modernisation. This has not only lead to commercialisation and diversification, but also triggered various technological and institutional innovations owing to investments from corporate entities.
About the course:
The degree programme offers the specialisations in entomology,agronomy,farm machinery,soil science,and disease identification in the I, II & III year respectively. It is honours undergraduate bachelors degree program, which generally includes agriculture science, use of modern scientific equipment and techniques in agriculture, land surveying, soil science, water resource management, animal and poultry management, basics of biotechnology etc. The aim of the program is to train students improve agriculture productivity, manage products and contribute to future development of the sector through research activities.
Curriculum details would include a suitable mix of general education and skill development which are designed for specific job roles in aquaculture & fisheries industry. The course includes content which equip skill development component in the candidate. Each year includes practical as well as theory courses which impart appropriate and relevant knowledge to the industry. The candidate will be exposed to project work and on the job training in the industry as well.
Various visiting guest faculty from the agriculture Processing and Preservation Industry as well as the experienced faculty of the institute would be sharing their knowledge, information, experience, technology with students
Eligibility:
The eligibility condition for admission into Bachelors Degree programme shall be
1. Intermediate or 10+2 or equivalent in any stream
2. Agriculture polytechnic,Horticulture Polytechnic or any other polytechnic

In the private sector: Agriculture graduates may find jobs as Quality Assurance Officer, Managers at plantations, Agriculture Loan Officer (in Banks), Production Manager, Operations Manager and Farm Manager at fertilizer manufacturing firms, agriculture machinery industries, agricultural products marketing firms, food processing units etc. The average starting salary of these officers is generally between Rs. 5 to 6 lakh per annum (including incentive). And as you gain years and experience, the scope for better remuneration is immense.
